  • The purpose of the Atomic Energy Act (42 U.S.C. Sect. 2011 - Sect. 2259) (AEA) is to assure the proper management of source, special nuclear, and byproduct material. The AEA and the statutes that amended it delegate the control of nuclear energy primarily to DOE, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) , and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

  • The Government of the United States of America confirms to the European Atomic Energy Community that sensitive nuclear technology, defined as any information (including information incorporated in a production or utilization facility or important component part thereof) which is not available to the public and which is important to the design, construction, fabrication, operation or maintenance of a uranium enrichment or nuclear fuel reprocessing facility or a facility for the production of heavy water, but not including Restricted Data (1), may be transferred to the Community outside an agreement for cooperation pursuant to sections 127 and 128 of the U.S. Atomic Energy Act.
