The flowers are small and held in big terminal panicles. The fruit is surrounded by the inflated calyx. T. grandis (teak) is the commonest and most wide-ranging species, much cultivated for its durable, attractive timber. There are 4 species, occurring in seasonal south-eastern Asia.
