wholesale price within the EC for certain products, such as wheat, which market management is intended to achieve; it is linked to the intervention price, an important concept within the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Economic Community. It represents an optimum wholesale price within the community for a given commodity. In devising this optimum price, the EEC must regard the income requirements of farmers, consumer needs, and world market prices. When a commodity price falls below the target price the EEC intervenes to purchase surpluses to return the market price to the target., price which the producer should receive under the common market organization.
