  • Tehispolümeerid moodustavad laia ja mitmekesise isoleermaterjalide rühma. Enamlevinud tehispolümeer (e. sünteetiline polümeer) on polüeteen (tuntud ka polüetüleeni nime all; tähis PE), mis on lineaarse struktuuriga neutraalne termoplastne polümeer. Polüeteen on mehaaniliselt tugev ja seejuures elastne materjal ning tal on head elektrilised omadused (tabel 3.3). Teda kasutatakse laialt isoleermaterjalina ning torude, kile, tarbeesemete jms valmistamiseks.
