  • Mingis ajavahemikus (aastas, kvartalis, kuus) välisriikidele tasutud ja välisriikidelt laekunud maksete suhe. Maksebilanssi mõjutavad kaubandusbilanss, riikidevahelised krediidid, kapitali välja- ja sisseveoga seoses olevad tulud ja maksed, tasulised teenused, diplomaatia kulud ning turism. Kui laekumine ületab väljamaksed, on riigi maksebilanss aktiivne, vastupidisel juhul passiivne. Passiivne maksebilanss põhjustab valuuta- ja kullavaru vähenemist (maksebilansi tasakaalustamise tagajärjel).
