Ferizaj (Ferizović) sai oma algse nime Osmani-aegse kuberneri järgi, kelle valduse juurde rajati Mitrovicë'i–Skopje liinil 19. sajandi lõpupoole raudteejaam. Pärast ala üleminekut Serbia kätte u 1912 nimetati linn ümber Uroševaciks, omaaegse Serbia kuninga Stefan Uroš II Milutini järgi. Albaania keeles säilis endine nimi.
