noble metal preferred
precious metal deprecated
  • 1. keemiliselt mitteaktiivne metall (mittekorrodeeruv või oksüdeerimiskindel metall); 2. sulam, milles neutronite hajumine aatomituumas kiiritamisel on tähtsusetu (vrd väärismetall)
    Good to know
    • 1. Elementide perioodilisustabeli suhteliselt haruldased 5. ja 6. perioodi metallid: ruteenium (Ru), roodium (Rh), pallaadium (Pd), hõbe (Ag), osmium (Os), iriidium (Ir), plaatina (Pt), kuld (Au), mille potentsiaal on kõrgelt positiivne vesinikelektroodi suhtes.
    • 2. Tavaliselt Ti-Zr sulamid tuumafüüsikas.
  • 1. a metal that is not chemically active and therefore not part of the chemical reactions (corrosion and oxidation resistant metal); 2. alloy for which scattering of neutrons by nuclei is negligible (compare: preciuos metal)
    Good to know
    • 1. Relatively scare, highly corrosion resistant metals of periods 5 and 6 of the periodic table; they include Ruthenium (Ru), Rhodium (Rh), Palladium (Pd), Silver (Ag), Osmium (Os), Iridium (Ir), Platinum (Pt), Gold (Au) whose potential is highly positive relative to the hydrogen electrode.
    • 2. Usually Ti-Zr alloys.
