(2) Politsei on täidesaatva riigivõimu institutsioon, mis kuulub Siseministeeriumi valitsemisalasse ning kelle põhiülesanneteks on avaliku korra kaitsmine, piirihalduse asjade korraldamine, merel otsingu- ja päästetööde korraldamine ning kodakondsuse ja migratsiooni valdkonna asjade korraldamine.
