(1) Sõjaväepolitsei on täidesaatva riigivõimu institutsioon Kaitseministeeriumi valitsemisalas ning selle põhiülesanded on menetleda süütegusid ja distsiplinaarsüütegusid, teha järelevalvet kaitseväelise distsipliini järgimise üle, teha haldus- ja riiklikku järelevalvet ning osutada isikukaitset.
