§ 1. Erakonna mõiste` (1) Erakond (partei) on Eesti kodanike vabatahtlik poliitiline ühendus, mille eesmärgiks on oma liikmete ja toetajaskonna poliitiliste huvide väljendamine ning riigivõimu ja kohaliku omavalitsuse teostamine, ning mis on registreeritud käesolevas seaduses sätestatud korras. (2) Erakond on eraõiguslik juriidiline isik. Erakonnale kohaldatakse mittetulundusühingute seadust käesolevast seadusest tulenevate erisustega.

§ 1. Definition of political party (1) A political party is a voluntary political association of Estonian citizens, which has been registered pursuant to the procedure provided for in this Act and the objective of which is to express the political interests of its members and supporters and to exercise state and local government authority. (2) A political party is a legal person in private law. The Non-profit Associations Act applies to political parties with the specifications arising from this Act.
