Missed nursing care is now recognized as a global issue that harmfully affects not only patient safety and quality of care, but also organizational outcomes and nurse well-being. Studies have shown its association with decreased job satisfaction and increased intent to leave the nursing profession.
Our findings emphasize the significant role of staffing and workload pressures in missed nursing care. The most frequently reported reasons were “unexpected rise in patient volume and/or acuity on the unit” (78.1%), “inadequate number of staff” (76.5%), and “urgent patient situation” (73.5%). These findings highlight a critical mismatch between resource availability and patient care demands.
