Performance’i-teatrist võiks kõnelda siis, kui tegevuskunsti vahendid imbuvad teatriväljale. Need on eksperimentaalsed lavastused, mis on küll loodud teatri konteksti, kuid on ideoloogia ja vormivõtete poolest lähedased performance’i-kunstiga. Need enamasti koosloome meetodil loodud lavastused tegelevad nii füüsiliste kujundite ja tegevuste kui ka visuaalsete objektidega.
Kui vaadata postdramaatilise teatri poolelt, siis on performance’i-teater ja tehnoloogiline teater selle äärmisemad vormid, mis aga kindlasti kuuluvad teatriuurija huviorbiiti.
