1998. aastal täienes AS Eesti Raudtee veduripark 4 uue Ukrainas Luganskis ehitatud magistraal-diiselveduriga 2TE116, mis hakkasid vedama ronge Narva ja Muuga vahel. Raudtee, piiri- ja sihtjaamade läbilaskevõime suurendamiseks 1997. aastal alustatud magistraal-diiselvedurite soetamisprojekti kogumaksumus on 20 miljonit USA dollarit.
