Whaling differs from phishing and spear phishing in that each attack varies in its focus. While whaling focuses on specific targets of interest (e.g. a C-level executive of a bank), phishing targets a mass population of users (e.g. all Gmail users) and spear-phishing targets specific groups of individuals (e.g. all individuals in the accounting depart-ment of a financial institution).
