self-propelled wheeled machine with a main structural support designed to carry both a front-mounted bucket loading mechanism and a rear-mounted backhoe
backhoe - an excavating vehicle in which the scoop is rigidly attached to the lower end of a short hinged arm at the end of a boom and is pulled towards the vehicle in operation
1. In addition, the earth-moving machinery listed below with a capacity exceeding 15 kW must be fitted with a rollover protective structure:
- crawler loaders or wheel loaders,
- backhoe loaders,
- crawler tractors or wheel tractors,
- scrapers, self-loading or not,
- graders,
- articulated steer dumpers.
2. When used in the backhoe mode, the machine normally digs below ground level with bucket motion towards the machine; the backhoe lifts, swings, and discharges material while the undercarriage is stationary. When used in the loader mode, the machine loads or excavates through forward motion of the machine, and lifts, transports and discharges material.
