Elevandiluupalmi suured luuviljad moodustavad ühiselt tohutu karuse kera taolise viljapea. ... Need suured seemned ongi laialt tuntud taimne elevandiluu, millest maailmas valmistatakse nööpe, täringuid, malendeid, mänguasju ja kaunistusi ning millest kohapeal nikerdatakse kujukesi.
Corozo
A natural material for natural buttons
The "Tagua", "Corozo" or "Vegetable Ivory", is the nut of a 5 or 6 meters tall palm tree ( Phytelephas Macrocarpa ) that grows throughout the humid tropical forest of northwest South America.
Tagua nut is of a white colored and hard material, which is why it is called Vegetable Ivory. At the end of the 19th century it began to be used to produce buttons and crafts, but its use was decreased with the arrival of synthetic materials. Today it has recovered its importance as a natural and ecological product.
