Any person with at least one of the following three: — Listeriosis of newborns defined as Stillbirth OR At least one of the following five in the first month of life: —Granulomatosis infantiseptica; —Meningitis or meningoencephalitis; —Septicaemia;—Dyspnoea; —Lesions on skin, mucosal membranes or conjunctivae
Meningitis causes an intense headache, fever, loss of appetite, intolerance to light (photophobia) and sound (phonophobia), rigidity of muscles, especially those in the neck (see also Kernig’s sign), and in severe cases convulsions, vomiting, and delirium leading to death.
