It may also be used as an anticollision and antibird beacon. Landing light(s) may be fitted onto the leading edges of the wings, on the nose undercarriage, or on the undersurface of the wings. There may be more than one light fitted onto an aircraft. Most landing lights are retractable.

Aeroplanes operated at night shall in addition be equipped with:
(1) navigation/position lights;
(2) two landing lights or a single light having two separately energised filaments; and (3) lights to conform with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea if the aeroplane is operated as a seaplane.
