1. Add the cobalt chloride to some of the HCl/water mixture in a 1 000 ml volumetric flask and make up to the mark with the rest of the mixture at 20°C.
2. Anhydrous cobalt(II) chloride paper is used as a qualitative test for water and as a heat-sensitive ink.
