  • A very poisonous, colourless heavy gas with a nauseating, choking smell; bp 8°C. It is manufactured by passing carbon monoxide and chlorine over a charcoal catalyst. It is used for the manufacture of intermediates in the dyestuff industry, and as a war gas.
