a diazo dye that binds to albumin and that can be used to estimate blood volume by injecting a known amount of dye and sampling the concentration after it has bound and been distributed throughout the blood. If there is leakage of plasma protein from blood vessels, e.g. in a site of inflammation, this can easily be visualized.
