the reaction of an anhydrous solution of antimony trichloride in chloroform with retinol (vitamin A) to produce a transient blue colour, maximal at about 10 s. It can be used to estimate retinol.
For group A products the retinol is determined by spectrophotometry at 610 nm after development of a coloured complex according to the Carr-Price reaction.
