International organizations, maritime countries, transportation consultants and shipbuilders have all used the Compensated Gross Tonnage (CGT) measure for commercial ships as the base for a productivity metric; namely Man Hours/Compensated Gross Ton (MH/CGT) for over thirty years. The Compensation Coefficients (CC), which attempt to take into account the influence of ship size and complexity on productivity, have been developed jointly by members of the Organization for Economic Cooperative Development (OECD).
