Portugal Telecom is profitable and succeeding well financially. Comments state that profits showed an increase of 70 % in 1995 whilst tariffs decreased. The share price of Portugal Telecom has outperformed that of the general index in Portugal and in the US, where Portugal Telecom is quoted on the New York Stock Exchange, its February 1996 price was US $ 22,375 as compared to its launch price of US $ 18,275.
