eritihedus former
  • aine tiheduse (ruumalaühiku massi) ja antud tugimaterjali tiheduse suhe
  • antud aine etteantud mahu massi suhe sama mahuga vee massi
  • ratio of the density (mass of a unit volume) of a substance to the density of a given reference material
suhteline tihedus preferred
Usage examples
Good to know
  • Vedelike suhtelist tihedust mõõdetakse peaaegu alati kõige tihedama vee suhtes (4 °C juures) ja gaaside puhul on võrdlusaluseks õhk toatemperatuuril (20 °C).

relative density preferred
Usage examples
  • The relative density, also called specific gravity, is a quantity with unit one defined as the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a given reference material. The term "relative density" (abbreviated RD or r.d.) is preferred modern use, for example in ISO, IUPAC, and NIST.
Good to know
  • Relative density for liquids is nearly always measured with respect to water at its densest (at 4 °C), and for gases, the reference is air at room temperature (20 °C).
