The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) is a multilateral human rights treaty that came into force on January 3, 1967. The ICESCR makes up one-third of the International Bill of Human Rights alongside the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
Majanduslike, sotsiaalsete ja kultuuriliste õiguste rahvusvaheline pakt kiideti heaks New Yorgis 16. detsembril 1966. aastal, Eesti suhtes jõustus pakt (International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, ICESR) 21. jaanuaril 1992.
The Union's contribution to democracy and the rule of law and to the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms is rooted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and other human rights instruments adopted within the framework of the United Nations (UN), as well as relevant regional human rights instruments.
