(2) Ajateenistus on meessoost kaitseväekohustuslase kaitseväeteenistuskohustuse täitmine ning naissoost isiku vabatahtlik kaitseväeteenistusse asumine ja selle läbimine sõjaväelise väljaõppe saamise eesmärgil. Ajateenistuses olev isik on ajateenija.
